Hey, I started proper riding lessons last Saturday. I ride a medium sized pony called ‘Kerry’. No matter how hard I kick or use the stick, I cannot control where she goes or how fast she goes. She just follows the pony infront, But holds back so there is a big gap in the line! Please help me! My instructor just tells me to wake her up by giving her a hard kick or a hard tap with the stick! I also watched a horse and 12 year old rider fall to the ground after running into a fence!

i do jumping and alot of horses are just lazy. and all you really need to do is like your instructor said just give him a really hard kick. u might think it hurts them but they are really big so it really doesnt actually. i love horses and like she said it is hard but it really is that shes just lazy.

got my 1st horse when i was 4. and i always fall off he takes off in the show ring sometimes but u cant stop loning ur horse. =)

    18. Arya10103 says:

jessierox—-well if u keep kickin nd hittin the pony will start to ignore u… nd get more annoyed… so i suggest tht since
u want him to listen to u,make him stop instead first…then make him stand there until hes like ok i get it ur in charge—then tell him to walk on … if he starts actin up giv him a sharp jab with ur heels nd make him stop nd wait again…my horse wuz like this nd when i did the above hes now great :) good luck

I have been riding ever since I was seven, and I am nearly sixteen now. My mother has been teaching me. This part of the video reminds me of my mare. We’ve gone through the hard times, shes got scared a lot, and sometimes you get to frustrated you want to give up. Don’t. Never hit your horse when they mess up. I found that reassuring my horse when in competitions seemed to help her. After each jump a soft mumble ‘good girl’. It helps, it really does. You really need that horsemen ship. Love.

    24. SlippedIntoTheSun says:

It could be that the pony has an attitude. A lot of pony’s and smaller horses do. She needs to learn that you are in charge and not her. She probably senses your frustration and gets a kick out of it. You never want to hit your horse or beat it but I agree with you instructor, really tap her sides or whip her with the crop in the rear, not multiple times, once should be enough. If not, you may need to spend a bit of bonding time?

Love it! This video is so true! And you never know what can happen with horses! =D
