I have just got a horse on loan for a few months, hes
4 years old, a tb, and 15.1hh
hes is such an angel on the ground and a real sweetheart, hes has raced like once or twice as a 3 year old, but now is purely a riding horse and competes occasionaly.
when i rode him, he was very speedy as he would be, and it was difficult trying to rise to his trot it was so fast, and then if you try to do a half halt, he goes down to nearly a walk, it does also take a while to make a ‘smooth’ transition from trot to canter, and looks rather messy, when he is in canter its still quite fast and very difficult to get him to stick to the track in the sand school, as he preferes going round in a circle, other than that he is very good for a 4 year old, as he doesnt buck or nap, but hes just very fast, any tips for training him to relax and take things a bit slower?
oo btw, his owner doesnt ride him alot due to a old injury (she rides him about 3 times a week), but does lunge a bit, he lives out and spends alot of time in the field, do you think its purely because hes young and doesnt get ridden as much? or does he need some serious schooling? 
what exercises do you recomend for fizzy horses?

sounds like a good horse to me. I think that he is just fact and wants to go in that circle because iif he was raced then that was wat he was trained for since he was very young.
all i can really tell u is to just keep practiceing with him. and when you are riding you try to relax even though you know how fast he is going to go. If you relax he will relax. If you slow down your posting that should slow down his trot to. Im not saying that the works for every horse but it does work for a lot of horses. And going from the trot to a canter it mite feel wierd moveing like you are in the canter when you are troting, but do that and ask for the canter, it mite take a while at frist but it will get get quicker and smoother change into the canter
