Hi I’m Lilli, I bought my horse a year ago and are unseperatable! She is 12 years old, as I’m a year older than her. When I first bought her she was used as a dressage horse, and was great at it, beautiful! I have always been completely interested in barrel racing, I was never interested in anything more. But when I first layed my eyes on Babe, I fell in love with her. And she has been the light of my life ever since. As my mother and sister have said many times, Babe is totally dependent on me, and she would be absolutely helpless without me. I agree. =]
Since it has been a while since I bought her, I think it is time that we begin training for Barrel Racing. I have ran her on the barrels a few times without practicing on turning, speed, ext. Babe seemed to love the game. I began training her a few weeks ago, using the tips I have learned from a youtube woman. I have rewatched the videos of my sisters barrel racing, noticing what the should have done, and what they did beautifully. I have been watching videos of barrel racers on youtube, finding what they did wrong, what they did right, whether the rider should even be riding a horse. Haha. But I have been studying my butt off, on tips, or anything that can help me improve my horse’s training.
If you have any tips or techniques that you want to share with me, don’t be afraid to tell.
Sincerely, -Lilli & Babe
loosin up but Still hold firmly on to the reins. don’t yell, but say goo goo goo or come on!
When you rein, rein lightly.
If she’s receptive, she’ll understand what you are asking. Lean with her direction so she knows where to go and start out slower. It’s generally somewhat easy to teach a horse the main points of barrel racing. It’s just a matter of speeding it up.
Lilli and Babe-
The most important thing u can do is slow work, slow work, slow work, You can not do to much slow work. I have been barrel racing since i was 11 and i am now 17, i use the same mare as i did when i was 11 and we still do A LOT of slow work. This teaches them that every time they see barrels not to just run and turn. it is more to it then just that. Do a lot of turning and bending excrises. Also every time u stop back "Babe" up a few steps. When you turn a barrel you want Babe to sit down and turn, that is where the backing up comes in. Backing up keeps Babe on her rear and builds up those muscles. If you want to know more then just E-mail i love helping other barrel racers.
