I recently just bought a 4yr old horse that has been started on barrels. He’s working the pattern well and is ready to start exhibitioning. I am planning on keeping this horse as long as I can and I want to make him my perfect barrel horse. Can anyone give me any tips with training him and keeping him going well. I would love everyone to give me tips, tricks, and ideas. Thanks!!!
He’s got a great attitude about it. He’s happy go lucky and just goes about his business no hurry. I’m asking what kind of cues should i teach him and stuff like that. He yields off leg pressure already. But what should I keep doing on him to make that 10 times better, stuff like that. I’m not asking what to feed, I know how to feed him. And every time I ride his back, girth area, legs, and hocks get massaged with Liniment.
You will soon find out if the horseĀ“s temperment can tolerate barrels. If not, he will become a crazy, miserable, maniac…
feed good supplements. don’t overwork him. give him variety so he doesn’t burn out. give him a buddy, so he has a friend. remember his feet and legs are precious and treat them as such, he’s your baby. love him, he’ll love you back. good luck.
