Well this might sound stupid but just listen,
Im 13 haven’t ridden since i was 7. Since then ive put on weight, like 15kg confidences be. and ive lost alot of confidence hence being nervous about the lessons, i want to enjoy it but all im thinking is, " my legs are going to look fat in jodhpurs, they’re going to laugh at my riding." ugh help?!
Get your butt back in that saddle girl! Theres no reason to be nervous ♥!
OMG! I am sooo lgad someone asked this!!! I feel the same way…I always try to make sure I dont look fat in my jophurs. Trust me…as long as you ride well (when I say well I mean not spazzing and staying on) nobody will care bout ur legs…its fine..also if you can find black pants,,,it kinda helps
just don’t worry about it. i know it’s hard! i have the same problem only my legs are really skinny and i look so ridiculous in breeches. my legs seriously look like chicken legs and i hate it! i just don’t let it bother me..if the horse doesn’t care, i don’t care. i know plenty of overweight people that ride horses and they were breeches..no one ever laughs at them and they don’t really look that bad. just breathe and focus on what you’re supposed to be doing. don’t let it bother you! you’ll be just fine =]
Unless you have some kind of severe physical disability riding is good for you. From 7 to 13 you are bound to put on weight. It is part of growing up!
Nobody is going to laugh at you. Everybody is at a different stage in riding. Nobody is perfect. You do not say why you stopped riding in the first place, but I am sure with a good instructor you will soon regain your confidence again!
Just go and enjoy it. And if you are stiff and sore afterwards have a warm bath and keep stretching. Work with it and you will get through it. If you are really a bit chubby, with more riding it will soon come off, especially if you offer to help out a bit in the stables as well. But I reckon you probably are not. Just think you are.
Please let us know how you get on.
its ok…
any way is ur sef concious then exercize(horse back riding is exercizing 2)
so if u keep doing it ull lose weight and ppl wont laugh at u…
and if they do look fat u can get this kindof spandex stuff tht makes u look thinner(oprah used them.. idk if she still does- i bet she still does)
seriously nobody is going to be looking at your legs and deciding if they look sexy or not!
get back into riding and you’ll soon tone up anyway
a good instructor would never laugh at your riding and would be supportive. maybe have a few private lessons first to get some confidence then group lessons once you get into the swing of things?
you’ll have a great time don’t worry!
good luck

Don’t let your weight stop you!
Plus, riding is a great way to loose that leg weight (trust me, i’ve had weight issues). If you want to ride, screw everyone that laughs, which i doubt anyone would, and just focus on your riding.
I have also seen some pretty big people competing in the upper levels lately, so just be confident in your riding!
I hope this helps.
This is normal! Riding is a huge challenge and we all second guess ourselves if we are good enough.
If you have only out on 15kg since you were 7 I wouldn’t worry at all! If you mean you are 15kg overweight, you sound like a normal 13 year old too me, as that is the age when you are stuck with puppy fat – it will go!
No one will laugh at your riding – that is, we might if you slide off face first into a poop pile, but other than that I have always found that all riders remember their first lesson and are so supportive and pleased when you get something right for the first time!
Breathe deeply before you get on, tell your instructor that you are nervous, make a joke about no one looking good in Jodhpurs and then enjoy it!
No one will laugh many people in the horse world understand no matter how big or small you are every one rides for a reason. They love horses. So it doesn’t matter how you look just ride and do your best. Good Luck.
Most people don’t look all that great in breeches/jodphurs, unless they just have really great legs
. It’s a fact of life. You won’t look any different than anyone else. People will understand that you’re coming back from a long layoff and aren’t going to expect an Olympic quality ride, so just relax and enjoy the sport
