Equestrian: Horse Tricks

A collection of things Altaïr can do on a horse in Assassin’s Creed. Jump mounts: You have to land on the horse from a height that you would otherwise survive. The third one (from the fence) is a 16-bar stunt mount, meaning Altaïr would lose 16-bars of sync if the horse weren’t there to break his fall. Any higher and he falls *through* the horse and dies. Dismounts: You can aim your dismount to the front, side or back. Sometimes you can dismount advantageously: into a haystack to Vanish, onto a View Point, or over a guard post. Changing horses midstream: Aim your dismount from one horse so that you mount another horse. Invincible rearing: The horse can take unlimited abuse while rearing. There’s a brief window between rears when it’s vulnerable to being knocked down. Meanwhile, the guards kill each other (two or three die in this short clip) especially in Memory Block 6 when their swords cause the most damage. Credit to ianxofour for this concept. Fighting on the horse: Everyone knows how to do this – hold Right Trigger and press X (R1 + Square on playstation 3). Fighting behind the horse: The horse will kick anyone who stands behind it during a fight, even Altaïr. It throws guards off balance but doesn’t cause any permanent damage. Fighting inside the horse: A glitch that happened on the way to Arsuf. I was fighting on the horse and somehow fell inside of it (that’s when I started recording). The game thought I was still on the horse. None of the controls worked and

There’s also a sci-fi twist to the game. Part of it is set in 2012 AD. You play a guy who (sort of like Neo in The Matrix) jacks into a machine that lets him relive his ancestors’ lives through genetic memory. The Assassin character is one of his ancestors.

Most of the action takes place in 1191, though. I like the stealth aspect: gathering information on your target, infiltrating his compound, sneaking up on him, and swooping down to deliver the final blow.

    Altair has iron balls lol

    Great video!

Well horse riding in Assassin’s Creed somewhat depends on how much time you want to spend riding around exploring or just full-out galloping between cities.

Ever since I made this Equestrian video, I’ve found myself making better use of the horse. See my new video series on Kingdom Flags and Templars, for example. It’s now second nature to do jump mounts and wild dismounts onto ladders, roofs, hay carts, etc.

Can anyone explain what the point of rearing a horse is?

  7. mappoprimo says:

to add emotion and make things drmatic :P

  8. mappoprimo says:

those were pretty neat moves :)

i finished this game 3 times love it and love doing the horse tricks like when your cornered with guards and then you run and you jump to another horse ha ha i love doing that

The best reason for rearing is to make a tight turn. For example, if you’re face to face with the guard post at a city gate you should rear the horse to turn around without disturbing them.

In this video, I demonstrate that guards in open conflict cannot bring down a horse while it’s rearing.

really like this vid. two thumbs up!

thanks for the great vid :)
unfortunately i don´t ride often because outside the cities its kinda laggy for me when riding a horse. ಠ_ಠ

It’s not just me then when there’s no blood when you kill when you’re on the horse?

  14. TheHorrorCrap says:

OK, fighting behind and on the horse isn’t really a trick

  15. deathbutt09 says:

that would hurt in real life

  16. Shindai says:

    lol great ending, very classy

  17. FBSnow says:

    This is cool.

Not sure if this is a trick, but once I rode my horse slowly through a line of soldiers guarding a view point and they just stepped aside for me.

  18. stabguy36 says:

Huh. There’s a guard post defending the View Point at flag #47. Did you hold Blend while riding the horse? I don’t think I’ve ever tried that.

  19. FBSnow says:

I’m pretty sure I did blend, but then again it might work without blending, maybe. I just know I proceeded to slaughter the guards behind them and they didn’t do anything about it and I just went back out the same way I went in. hah

How can I access the blocked memory to the road near the city of Arsuf? It is also close to the other road which can be entered later in the game where King Richard and his guards are. It is the one on the video that says “Are they ever going to fix this road?”

  21. stabguy36 says:

That road never opens up. Seriously. It was meant to be an alternate path to Arsuf (end of Memory Block 6) but the developers forgot about it.

  22. Niadine says:

That sucks, I thought is meant gathering all the flags of the Kingdom or something. I’m just missing 2 out of 100; and the smaller the number, the harder it is the find a flag.

  23. niko9998 says:

I say that after the drop or jump from viewpoint to mount Altaïr got no balls :D

  24. MrM99887 says:

OK, fighting behind and on the horse isn’t really a trick

If you like just playing around on horses in AC1 you should check out Red Dead Redemption. Huge expanses to ride around in, you can capture and break wild horses, plus 100′s of more things you can do
