The trailers in this country are awful. They’re closed on top, and sort of caved in like a compact car. Two horses crammed where I’d put one.. maybe. Obviously there must be ventilation, they just are cramped and horrible. Compact trailers for compact cars. Or you can hire a service that has access to nice trailers. I prefer stock trailers, it just seems a no-brainer that wasn’t invented here.

have you ever taken any of your horses to a fair or any event? if so, can you tell us what goes on with the horses and the owners before the event, like what is the routine? i know it might be different with each event but i’ve always been curious to what goes on.

Thanks, Rick, for another practical video. I am new to horses and am in the market for a trailer. Your advice goes a long way towards helping me to purchase a trailer. I was considering a stock trailer, and you have convinced me that this is the way to go. Now, on to craigslist.

Thanks Rick for putting this together. One question I had and that is what you feel about rubber mats in the trailer? Many people i know use rubber mats, what’s your thought on that? I don’t have a trailer myself but I always access to one if I need it. But trailers scare the crap out of me. I was once behind a horse trailer and the door flew open, thank god there was no horses in it. The woman who was driving said it was no big deal i should of not being over reacting. argggg

@larasa007 : The woman that said no big deal is an idiot. She is typical life long horse owner that likes to be tough by not caring about her horse. I have an article on my bad horsemanship page of my site where some idiot drove off while her horse was tied to the trailer and killed the horse after dragging it on the hwy. Better yet IT WAS THE SECOND TIME SHE DID IT. But she was an experienced life long horse owner so it was the stupid horse’s fault. Mats are good, more cushioning for horse

Thanks for the video. I am thinking about getting some horses but it will be a while before I do I want to make sure I know as much as I can about horses and what they need before diving in. I am disabled so I have all the time in the world for them and Im not worried about the money part just the knowledge so thanks for the video….

I’ve ridden in the back of a trailer (no room in the actual pickup truck). It was fun :)
