You are making progress if you:-
a. Still like horse and enjoy riding.
b. You haven’t fallen off too many times.
c. Dare I say it, your BTM is not sore
d.Finally you can still afford the cost of lessons
Good luck and enjoy.
Everyone progresses at their own pace…I took a lesson a week for probably 4 years before I started cantering and then another year after that before I started jumping. Its all about safety too, if anything I’d say you are progressing too fast. You should have reasonable equitation and be able to trot with no stirrups before moving to cantering and you should be able to canter over poles on the ground before moving to trotting jumps. Have you learned diagonals yet? Its better to learn the basic stuff VERY well now before moving on to more difficult things because you will only pick up bad habits or ride unsafely and will have to return to the basics and start over.
