I really want to start riding horses again. I used to and I only took 3 lessons before getting thrown off 4 years ago. I want to start riding again this summer even though I have large fears of getting near a horse. I need to know how much it generally costs because I’d have to convince my parents to let me because I don’t have a job. I’d only take lessons once a week.
BTW, do you know what type of clothes I’d need to ride a horse?
Hi,
I would wear a pair of jodpurs, doesnt matter what colour unless its a posh instructor then I would wear cream or white ones. As for the price, they vary depending on how good and qualified the instructor is. Some lessons are about £5.00 + but I pay about £40.00 for mine. Like I say it depends on the instructor and what level you are at. Also dont let your fears ruin your love for horses. I know it is hard for me to say really but just think about the good times that you’ve had with them and maybe just ask if you can spend some time with one horse and just build your confidence with them again whilst on the floor before you start riding again?
Hope this helps and good luck!!!
Have fun!!!!
The price can vary and you may even find if you ask it may be possible to barter. My daughter worked in the stables, cleaning, brushing down animals, etc in return for her lessons. As for clothing, I recommend sturdy blue jeans, a long sleeved shirt, and boots with a heel. Working in the stable would have several additional positive qualities for you. Your willingness to work to earn your lessons would serve to convince your parents of the seriousness of your desire, and it would allow you to be around horses without actually being on them and able to possibly be thrown, thus allowing you to get to know them a bit without fear. I would recommend you look under riding lessons and stables in your local area and call a few and ask.
25-40$CAN for a one hour group lesson depending on the discipline, prestige and location
